KENNEL COUGH – KEEP AWAY FROM SHOWS

In the Dobermann breed notes, “Our Dogs” the correspondent wrote that people do not think and take their dog(s) to shows still infected with kennel cough without a care in the world.

An email was sent to the correspondent from an exhibitor that stated “ to anyone who thinks kennel cough is just a minor irritation – both to showring and for the dogs, our bitch, was admitted to the vets and is now in intensive care with pneumonia. People seem to think that if other dogs who’ve had, or have been in contact with Kennel Cough will be there anyway, why should they miss their show? Please be a bit more careful.”

The breed correspondent doubts whether this message will get across to some people but many Dobes have contracted kennel cough from the Birmingham Show. If you have been in contact with any dog that has been coughing the likelihood is that your dog will become infected so STAY AWAY FROM THE SHOWS. It is normally 5 – 10 day incubation period before the cough starts.
