THE TIBETAN SPANIEL

The Breed Standard

A member of the Utility Group, the Tibetan Spaniel was one of the first of the Tibetan breeds to reach England, coming here in around 1900. This was a breed favoured by Tibetan Monks and was brought here by returning medical missionaries. A firm hold had been established by 1920 and really came into its own after the end of the Second World War.

This small, active and alert dog, has a delightful temperament. His expression is somewhat haughty, but only too willing to let his hair down in a mad rush around the garden with his friends. His coat is a gleaming, silky texture, which in spite of its length, is not hard to keep in good condition.

He loves company, and exercise, but is quite content to let life take its course. He is a healthy dog needing relatively little food, and a minimum amount of fuss. He is described as being gay and assertive, highly intelligent and aloof with strangers. He is also loyal but independent.

Height is about 25cm (10in), Their ideal weight is 4-7kg (9-15lb).
