THE MINIATURE SCHNAUZER

The Breed Standard

A member of the Utility Group, this is a smart, small dog, having a wiry coat. It originated in Germany and comes in three colours, pepper and salt, black and black and silver. Its eyebrows and whiskers enhance its distinctive appearance. The breed’s handy size makes for a popular town dog.

This dog is robust, hardy and agile, is very alert and will always warn owners when strangers are around their property. Daily grooming with a wire glove on the body and a comb through their whiskers and leg hair will keep them in good shape .Stripping twice a year is needed. The breed made its debut in the showring in 1899.

The ideal height for a dog is 36 cm (14 in); bitch is 33cm (13 in)
Too small, dogs appearing to be toyish, are not typical and are undesirable.
