THE JAPANESE SPITZ
| The Breed Standard |
A member of the Utility group, his startingly white coat and bold affectionate nature makes this dog an attractive household pet. He is never lost for words and will let his owners know when strangers are around in a forceful manner. His profuse stand off coat and thick underlay needs much attention on a regular basis. He is a small but nimble dog demanding neither excessive feeding nor much exercise. This is a lap-sized Spitz type breed that was descended from long haired dogs in the Nordic area. It was taken to Japan in the early part of the 20th Century and after arriving there was bred to reduce its size. The breed was then exported to Sweden where it was readily accepted and in 1970 some were brought into England from Sweden. Height at shoulder - dogs - 34-37cm [13.5- 14.5 in] and bitches 30-34cm [11.75 - 13.5ins] |
