THE CAVALIER KING CHARLES SPANIEL

The Breed Standard

A member of the Toy Group, this breed has large, dark eyes and melting expression that are a true indication of character. He is sturdy and hardy, coming in a range of four colours,
so it is very difficult to choose.

This breed is a happy dog, who will enjoy a long walk in the country, ambling around the shops, or just sitting by the fire with its owners. He is also very good with children, also a devoted companion, non-aggressive, and easy to care for. He has a silky coat that needs little attention, and his ever-wagging tail shows how easy he is to please.

This breed was first recognised by the Kennel Club until 1944, but by the 1970’s the breed was in the top twenty of British registrations and continues to attract large show entries. The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is larger than its relative, the King Charles Spaniel, and also less snub-nosed.

The weight ideally should be 5.4-8.2kg, (12-18lb),
and a small, well balanced dog that is well within those weights would be desirable.
