| The Breed Standard |
A member of the Pastoral Group, this dog is now considered to be a native British Breed, often called the “Bob-Tail” This breed is strong, compact and with a very profuse coat. The coat is a distinctive feature of the breed, and is weather resistant. This is not a dog for those who do not have plenty of time and the patience to groom. Boisterous, lovable puppies soon grow into large, strong adults that need plenty of exercise. He is basically a dog for the country. He is both intelligent and friendly, but he does have a particularly resonant bark that is sufficient to frighten off any intruder and he is also very protective of his family and friends. Being used as an advertising symbol has probably not been in the best interest of the breed. The height for males is approx 61 cm (24 in) and upwards; for bitches, 56 cm (22 in) and upwards.Type and symmetry are of greatest importance and on no account to be sacrificed to size alone. |
