THE BORDER COLLIE
The Breed Standard

The Border Collie is a highly intelligent dog with an inborn instinct to work and responds readily and eagerly to training. It was only in the latter quarter of the 20th century that the Border Collie assumed an important role in the show-rings of Britain. He is loyal & faithful and has a kindly disposition. He needs lots of exercise, thrives on company and is the type of dog who needs to work to be happy and is not content to sit at home by the fire all day. Therefore is often seen competing in the Agility & Obedience ring. The Border Collie is keen, alert, responsive and intelligent, but neither nervous nor aggressive.

Size - Ideal height: Dogs: 53cm [21 in]; Bitches - slightly less

A variety of coat colours are permissible, but white should never predominate.
