THE AFGHAN HOUND
| The Breed Standard |
This member of the Hound Group, is one of strength and dignity, as well as having an Oriental expression with which the dog looks at and through any stranger. The silky coat needs much careful and regular grooming. This is a typical sight hound that originated from the mountains of Afghanistan. He is a hunter and will chase anything, electric hare or neighbour’s cat so basic training, especially the re-call is not easy to accomplish. This dog has a tendency to be aloof, with those he doesn’t know, but has great affection and faithfulness for his owner. The ideal height for dogs is 68-74cm (27-29 in); and for bitches, 63-69cm (25-27 in). |
